Rules for Fast and Abstinence
During the season of Lent the church calls us to fast and abstain. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are fast days. Fast means that those between the ages of 18 and 59 limit themselves to one full meal and eat nothing between meals. The other meals on a fast day are light meals. All Fridays of Lent, as well as Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, are also days of abstinence, which means those 14 years of age and older are to abstain from meat.
One of the Lenten sacrifices is Almsgiving. As a parish pledged to stewardship, we share our resources with those less fortunate than we. During this season of sacrifice we will send a donation of $1,500 ($300 a week from our weekly Lenten collections) to various groups that need our support. The names of the organizations will be placed in the bulletin in the event that you might want to send a personal donation as well.
Stations of the Cross with Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament: Fridays following the 9:00AM Mass. You can also share in the Stations on each Friday evening at the Eucharistic Adoration Hour in the Convent Chapel from 7:30PM to 9:30PM.
